Many of my clients fall into that often overlooked dating camp of the single mom. For most singles, dating can sometimes be a chore, but there are definitely unique issues that come with dating while simultaneously raising a child. As a Master Certified Relationship Coach, I have seen first-hand how much turmoil comes with juggling the dating life and the family life. Quality dating begins and ends with owning your own situation in life. Let me be the first to say, children never impede your dating life, only YOU do. I have three kids.
11 Strategies for Dating as a Single Mom
The faster you can grasp this, the better. That will bruise the ego a bit. You should know whether or not you have the relational maturity to court a woman with kids. Be honest. There is no need to over-inflate her perception of you. Pay, always. Show her a first-class experience that allows her the opportunity to be stress-free. Create opportunities that allow her to be seen. Remind her that you see HER… not the mom, the woman. The dreamer. The lover.
The companion. The champion. Calm down, no one is asking you to be a dad. Learning to respect that relationship, know your role, and create healthy boundaries will be of great value to your relationship moving forward, especially with her co-parent. She may not especially like him… Cool. Not your business at this point. Trust is going to go in waves. When she says she loves you, she means it.
When she plans a future with you, she means it. When she introduces you to her kids which you should never pressure , she means it. Give her what she needs every day. Focused attention. Affirming touch. To be seen. To be heard. To be known. And her kids need to SEE their mother being loved well. But this is a good starting point. You will attract the quality of person you are.
